YOU PEOPLE IN SALES AND MARKETING JUST DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR CLIENTELE. WHY DO YOU PERSIST IN MAKING IT COMPULSORY FOR BOOKINGS TO BE MADE WITHIN 7 DAYS OF PURCHASE. IT IS TOTALLY LUDICROUS, AND I FOR ONE HAVE NOT AND NEVER WILL BOOK ANY OF YOUR HOLIDAYS WITH THIS RESTRICTION. ALL YOUR COMPETITORS LEAVE THIS PORTION OPEN AND ONE IS FREE TO BOOK AT ANY TIME WHILST THE DEAL LASTS, AND TO DATE MY WIFE AND I HAVE TAKEN UP WELL OVER 20 – AN ONION TO GROUPON FOR THIS

      Hi Patrick.

I’m sorry that you feel this way, but I spoke to our Head of Partner Relationship Management about it and this is what he has to say:

With reference to the 7-day policy, it was created to both protect the customer and the partner. Groupon has found, through extensive research compiled through discussions with the many hundreds of travel partners we work with, that ensuring a customer will have the dates they want is the biggest challenge when doing a Groupon campaign.

Groupons calculates a capacity/maximu volume sales based on the establishment’s current availability before the deal going live. This is crucial as Groupon can sell hundreds if not thousands of nights of bookings in a very short space of time.

Unfortunately, Groupon cannot control the changing availability of a Travel Partners reservations, but we can ensure that within the first seven days of purchase, the Partner will have capacity for customers based on what was negotiated before the deal went live. Thereafter, the Travel Partner can open up all their bookings and fill up all gaps which would mean, as a customer, you have no protection and no assurance your booking will be observed.

Groupon International has developed a booking tool which will alleviate this, but unfortunately it will only be rolled out later this year.

Partners offering a longer validity date are moved to our all deals page, and these are available up until 30 days before expiry, so if the customer wants to risk it, they can wait closer to the time and go to our all deals page and see what’s available.

I hope this was helpful in explaining our reasoning for the seven-day booking policy.
